Should I Stay Or Should I Go

If you say that you are mine
I’ll be here til the end of time
So you got to let know
Should I stay or should I go?
The Clash

How many times do you get the chance to start a blogpost with Clash lyrics? I think there should be an International Start A Blogpost With Clash Lyrics Day or something. Wouldn’t that be something?

But anyhow. I’m in two minds.

I want to get off the server which currently hosts this blog, Greywulf::Net and ::DEV. Microlite20 is in the process of migrating to http://microlite20.net (with Save Or Die to be integrated), and everything else has been removed. My sole other site is Pack Mentality, my wordpress.com hosted my-site-is-down again blog.

Now we’ve a much more stable and well maintained host for Microlite20, I’d planned to move this blog over there too, ditching Pack Mentality along the way. That would leave me with one blog, Greywulf::Net for tech articles and Microlite20 for role-playing stuff. Clean. Simple.

I’ve done the migration already, pulling in over 2,000 posts going back to September 2004 into a shiny new WordPress blog all primed and ready for action.

Now, I’m no fan of WordPress. I know that’s heresy, but I’d much rather run a wiki anytime. I like the freeformness (is that a word?), love the way that site links just work, and find it easier to type wiki markup than do the whole pointy-clicky icons-in-a-text-editor thing.

Unfortunately, the search engines MUCH prefer WordPress blogs over wikis. I ran a test crossposting between this site and Pack Mentality (sorry, Alex, for nuking my RSS feeds. Again.). The WordPress site reached Google in mere minutes, while this blog crawled in a day or so later. Why, I dunno. But there it is.

So, my head says “move to the new site, use the WordPress blog you’ve already put up and join the rest of the world”.

My heart says…… I don’t want to. I like my wiki. And that counts for a lot.

So, which is it to be? Head? Or heart?

Should I stay, or should I go?
