The story is all too familiar.
A mugging goes wrong, a gunshot, and one guy lays in a pool of blood while his girlfriend cradles his head. What happened afterward though is less common.
David awoke obsessed that he was an angel sent to Earth and ordered by God to clean up the streets in preparation for His Return. A gifted metalworker, David fashioned a pair of metal wings and a high-powered repeater crossbow and set out on his mission, leaving his job, his girlfriend and his entire life behind. After all, God demands nothing less.
He now lives alone in the sordid top floor of an abandoned warehouse. He’s used junk he’s salvaged to turn it into something that looks like a steampunk cathedral and spends his days studying religious texts for hidden messages and his nights putting crossbow bolts in bad guys. Oh yeh.
Dirty little secret: David’s frontal lobe was damaged in the attack and he’s suffering from serious mental delusions. On the other hand, his inventions do work, so perhaps there’s more to it than that…….
Notes: Angelus has been a favourite character of mine for a while, but it’s taken until now to give him a decent write-up. This is the character I’d love to make a comic for – a steampunk’d street-level half-crazy religion-obsessed hero with a damaged frontal lobe. Batman meets Taxi Driver. Yummy.
