A free and fully programmable (in Python, no less) version of Minecraft will be released by the end of the year. The goal is to encourage creativity through programming, and I can think of no better way than dropping a $25 Raspberry Pi preloaded with Minecraft onto the laps of a child (or adult, for that matter).
