Never trust a Hireling, Companion or other NPC that tags along with the party. They always, always end up turning into a vampire (or ghoul, or werewolf) or somehow betray the party in unexpected yet oh so predictable ways.
Better to kill them straight away and get the XP. That’s what I say.

Sometimes, you need them. However, make sure they are gnomes and make sure they carry your chest. You also need to make sure they are called Nodwick.
