Heroes

We’ve been watching and enjoying Heroes over on BBC2. I know that over in the US it’s well into the second series, but over here we’ve only just seen the 3rd or 4th episode of the first series.

And I’m hooked.

It’s got the one thing which makes for a great show, and that’s great characters. The different personalities really shine, and it’s easy to latch on to one or two of them as personal favourites. I’m digging Hiro and Claire Bennet in particular, though Matt is growing on me too.

I’ve had a stab at working out where Heroes would fit into the Mutants & Masterminds role-playing game. Given that X-Men and the like set the standard at Power Level 10, I’d say Heroes is much, much lower. These are very ordinary people coming to terms with a single extraordinary power.

I reckon it would be a PL 2 (!!!) campaign. This puts the folks around the same level as Firefighters from the Core Book, but with lower stats and abilities to help pay for their Powers. It’s a testament to just how flexible M&M is that it can handle such a (comparitively) low level of power, and do it, beautifully.

Here’s a handful of characters from Heroes generated using Mutants & Masterminds based on my impressions from the first few episodes. Hope you like ‘em! :)

  1. Actually, according to the Paragons sourcebook, most of the characters in Heroes would probably be PL6, which would be totally appropriate.

Bear in mind that’s probably at the start of the series, so they’ve probably progressed further than that.
